The Ourika Community Gardens embody YSL Beauty’s innovative approach to sourcing. A place of ecosystem restoration, innovation, and thriving nature, it provides many of our essential ingredients while creating a positive social impact on the surrounding communities. A social responsible program connected to the earth.

The gardens feature a growing area that is home to more than 200 botanical species, along with an experimental and observation laboratory plants from which active ingredients are developed, and a decorative garden paying tribute to the iconic flowers that inspired Yves Saint Laurent.

SHOWCASING NATURE

The main garden created by landscape artists Éric Ossart and Arnaud Maurières covers 20,000 square metres. YSL Beauty strives to respect the region’s specific cultural and agricultural characteristics by selecting only Moroccan species.

Although some of them are developed for their strong cosmetic benefits, a great variety of species are grown and alternated according to the season to tap into their ability to enrich the soil, such as Sainfoin and Phacelia, which are real green manure crops.

The landscaped garden is divided into three separate areas. The first area comprises 64 growing patches aimed at the production and harvesting of plants used in YSL Beauty products. The second area, called the "botanical collection", serves as a test area to experiment with new ingredients. Lastly, the "heritage" area pays tribute to Yves Saint Laurent and his passion for flowers through the cultivation of and botanicals.

A COOPERATIVE OF THIRTY-TWO WOMEN
TO GROW EACH AND EVERY PLANT IN THE GARDENS.

Driven by that conviction, YSL Beauty continues the uninterrupted dialogue with those whom the designer saw as free and confident heroines, by supporting the creation of a cooperative of 33 women to grow each and every plant in the gardens. This unprecedented social programme strives to promote the skills of the region’s inhabitants to advance their financial independence.
